One of the reasons AOIIs exists is to support sisters in all aspects of their life. That’s why, at our most recent philanthropy event, we ended up at the Reach Out and Read Kansas City offices on April 7 sorting books. Former KCAOII president, Jenny Horsley, is the Executive Director of the organization. RORKC’s Hooked on Books event collects new and gently-used books to be distributed to literacy organizations. After all those books are collected, volunteers (like us!) put stickers on them to identify that they were donated to RORKC. Then, the books are sorted by age group and packed into boxes for distribution. Luckily, the morning we volunteered, there were lots of helpers and the work went quickly! We also were inspired to talk about our favorite childhood books while working together. Judith’s is Treasure Island and Cara’s is the Velveteen Rabbit! The rest of us couldn’t quite decide.
Thanks to everyone who came out to volunteer and check out some of the photos from the event below!
