Earlier this month, AOII sisters gathered at the annual fundraising event, Books On Tap, to help raise money for Reach Out and Read, a Kansas City non-profit organization with a mission to provide young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. Each year, Reach Out and Read Kansas City provides nearly 84,000 new, culturally and developmentally appropriate books to 30,000 low income children, birth to age 5, during well-child visits at partner clinic sites, building a 15-book library for each child before he or she enters kindergarten.

Books On Tap is one of Reach Out and Read’s signature events and is organized by Jenny Horsely, KC AOII sister, past president and executive director of Reach Out and Read. This year, the event raised more than $7,000 and several AOII sisters were happy to help support such a worthwhile cause by attending the event. Plus, it was a blast!
If you didn’t get a chance to attend this year, we recommend going next year – it’s a great way to support our community while having a great time! There’s also another way to make a difference in our community this upcoming weekend. Join your fellow sisters at our “Playing in the Leaves!” event where we will rake leaves in the yards of the elderly this Saturday. Click here to learn more about this event and to sign up.
