If you're reading this, you're probably a member of Alpha Omicron Pi. But are you still active in the fraternity?
A recent article in the Chicago Tribune examined the benefits of staying involved with your sorority beyond the college years. The author used the Chicago Northwest Suburban Alumnae Panhellenic as one example: the group represents 19 sororities and has members ranging from 23 to 89 years old! Another group, the Elmhurst Panhellenic, has 80 members from 21 different sororities.
Several sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi were interviewed for the article and provided personal examples of the importance of staying involved. Some examples of how alumnae chapter membership can enrich your life:
- Opportunity to make new friends
- Networking
- Career development
- Philanthropy
- Emotional and financial support
According to the article, experts have found that "friendships such as those found in sororities
help participants improve self-esteem and coping skills, even kick the
smoking habit."
What are you waiting for?! Whether you've lived here for years and never had the time to be involved or if you've just moved to town, join the Kansas City alumnae chapter for an event. You might meet your next best friend, or find a new career, or just enjoy some "me" time with a great group of women.
